Super Eagles and Fenerbahçe of Turkey defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has agreed to sponsor the 2nd edition of Bright Osayi U‑13 Football Tournament in the state.

Addressing Journalists in Benin yesterday, Osayi noted that the youth championship is aimed at transforming raw talents into professional football players.

Osayi who spoke through his uncle Michael Osaron stressed the need for every participant to leave with lessons that last longer than trophies.

“To my young players, I urge you to give your best, learn from each other, and enjoy the game. Remember, winning is not everything. It’s about the joy of playing, the thrill of competition, and the lesson you learn along the way,” he said.

He, therefore, commended the coaches, officials and supporters for shaping the young minds and bodies, adding that their contributions are invaluable to the growth of football in the state. 

Earlier, Fred Erhunmwunse, Chairman, Edo Football Association described the maiden edition as the most successful youth tourney in the state.

While commending the sponsor for the investment in grassroot sports development, he called for collaboration of the participating teams and other stakeholders to ensure a more successful event.

The FA chairman said the prize in the first edition was N1 million, runners up N750,000 while third place was N500,000 but the sponsor had pledged to increase the stake in the second edition.
