‘Mothers of Chibok’ film spotlights parents’ 10-year anguish

A decade after Boko Haram abducted 276 Chibok schoolgirls, a new documentary, Mothers of Chibok, has revealed the enduring pain and resilience of affected parents.

The film by Joel ‘Kachi Benson follows four mothers, Yana Galang, Lydia Yama, Ladi Lawan and Maryam Maiyanga, who are still waiting for their missing daughters. Shot over four years, it captures their farming routines as metaphors for perseverance.

At its Lagos premiere, Trade Minister Jumoke Oduwole hailed it as “a story of courage”, particularly praising Galang, who leads other grieving mothers.

Benson, who previously won awards for the Daughters of Chibok VR film, said, “These women inspire me. It isn’t about pity but their extraordinary strength.”

Galang, the lead cast member, also said, “We want the world to see us as strong women, not just victims.”

Famous Hollywood actor Val Kilmer has died after a long illness, his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, announced on Tuesday night.

Kilmer, who was 65, passed away in Los Angeles following a battle with pneumonia, according to reports by The New York Times.

The actor rose to fame with his role in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun. He was also well-known for playing Jim Morrison in The Doors, Doc Holliday in Tombstone, and Batman in Batman Forever.
